About Us

The mission of D.E.S.I. is to enhance, reinforce and strengthen South Asian countries' culture and social awareness at the College of the Holy Cross. D.E.S.I's agenda encompasses topics related to the eight South Asian countries: Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Afghanistan, India, and the Maldives. We explore the festivals and the traditions of these countries in efforts to educate the Holy Cross community. In developing an acronym for Developing and Educating South-Asian Ideologies, D.E.S.I., we emphasize that we are not only teaching the Holy Cross community a particular country but about all South-Asian countries that originated within the Indian subcontinent. These teachings go beyond just the cultural aspect, including the significance of social justice in D.E.S.I communities in America and abroad.
