Rebecca is a gothic novel that follows an unnamed young woman who marries the wealthy widower Maxim de Winter and moves to his grand estate, Manderley. However, she struggles to escape the shadow of Maxim's first wife, Rebecca, whose presence lingers through the sinister housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers. As secrets unravel, she discovers that Rebecca was not the perfect woman she seemed to be and begins to suspect her death was not what it seems. The novel explores themes of identity, jealousy, love, and deception, leading to a haunting and dramatic conclusion.
The Library Book Club is open to all students, faculty, and staff. Even if you have not read or finished the book, you are still welcome to come and talk with us! We have two discussion options, one for those who finished the book and want to discuss all of it (spoilers welcome), and another discussion for those who did not finish and don't want spoilers.
