You will take this training with the people you are living in community with. Each residence hall has been designated specific dates to complete the course. Please ensure you are registered for the date and time that corresponds with your floor/ room number.
This training is a requirement by the College. We understand that things may come up and there may be other required time conflicts. Should you have class, an atheltics requirement, work, or if there is an unexpected emergency please email Jill Kelley (she/her), Assistant Director of Prevention and Education at jckelley@holycross.edu. You must provide at least 10 days notice if you are unavailable to attend.

In this training you will learn how to be an active bystander and develop skills to be a responsible contributor to your community. You will have the opportunity to explore how to make ethical decisions and understand the consequences of your actions. You will have the opportunity to find answers to the questions "Who do I want to become?" & "To Whom and for whom am I accountable?". This training is an opportunity for you to engage in personal growth practices for yourself and others.
BITB as a evidence- based solution:
BITB is a prevention program based on the concept that all community members have a role to play in ending incivility, harassment, violence and discrimination. The important role that a bystander has in intervention is the basis for this unique and effective program. The program helps participants gain the knowledge and skills needed to identify and safely intervene before, during and after instances of potentially harmful.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will understand the concept of bystander intervention.
Participants will be able to identify inappropriate sexual behaviors and recognize sexual & relationship violence.
Participants will understand their role in bystander intervention and commit to intervene in the case of sexual and relationship violence before, during, and after and incident.
Participants will understand personal barriers to bystander intervention and develop techniques to overcome them, including the role that factors of identity play.
Participants will develop strategies for safely intervening
in ways that fit their ability and skillset.
