Academic Internships are comprised of two components: fieldwork at an internship site in Worcester, greater Boston or Providence area and academic work in an internship seminar. If a seminar topic is not appropriate to the internship, tutorial work with an individual faculty sponsor may be arranged by a student. Each student is expected to spend eight hours per week on the job and another three or four hours on the academic component (outside of the 2.5 hour seminar). One unit of academic credit is granted for the Academic Internship Program. Admission is open to third- and fourth-year students by application. The first priority deadline for applications is _______.
You don’t have to have an internship in mind specifically (but if you do have a couple of sites you’d like to apply for, that’s great).
Some details about the program to note:
• An AIP seminar counts as a regular credit, and expectations for the seminar are the same as for any Holy Cross seminar. 30% of your final grade is based on evaluations from your internship supervisor.
• Students are expected to intern for 8-10 hours a week.
• Holy Cross only allows students to get credit for two internship-based courses. If you have participated, or expect to anticipate, in the Washington or New York Semester programs, or in the Academic Internship Program, you should be aware that you may only get credits for two of these experiences.
Applications for the Academic Internship Program require that students upload a resume that has been approved by the
Center for Career Development (CCD). This will not only help you put your best foot forward for the application process, it will ensure that you have a resume ready to send to potential internship sites as soon as you are accepted. You can email
careers@holycross.edu or call 508-793-3880 for more information. Your application will not be reviewed without a CCD-approved resume.
