The Donelan Office advances community engagement through partnerships with students, faculty, and community organizations. Through community-based learning (CBL) courses, students at Holy Cross have the opportunity to connect academic learning with civic engagement integrated into courses offered in a wide variety of disciplines. The Scholarship in Action program (SIA) supports faculty, students, and community organizations through resources, coordination, and short-term and long-term grants for community-engaged research. In CBL courses and SIA projects, academic learning is brought to life through a range of research opportunities, community-based projects, and direct service opportunities that meet community-identified needs.

The Academic Internship Program is a full credit, one-semester course, comprised of both an analytical component (an internship seminar, such as Ethical Issues in Professional Life, Social Justice, or Legal Issues) and an experiential component (fieldwork at an internship site in Worcester or the greater Boston area).

The internship course provides third and fourth-year students with a unique opportunity for learning about particular fields through a combination of direct hands-on experience and formal study and is designed to complement the more traditional curriculum. While the main intent of the program is to provide students with an experiential learning opportunity in their chosen fields, it also provides an opportunity for career exploration.

Academic Services and Learning Resources helps students develop, manage, and navigate their personal and academic goals. At ASLR, students engage in academic success programming, including one-on-one peer tutoring and mentoring, collaborative learning with fellow students, individual success coaching, and interactive workshops. ASLR empowers students to succeed by helping to maximize their potential through an introduction to key resources and strategies.

Admission Tour Guides are comprised of dedicated student volunteers in the sophomore, junior, and senior classes. Campus tours are offered year-round with some small hiatuses during school breaks. Interviews for new Tour Guides happen once per year, towards the end of the spring semester. Students in Africana Studies examine the histories, politics, cultures, and economies of Africa, the Americas, the Caribbean, and Europe using methods from multiple disciplines including history, sociology, political science, languages, literature, religion, and music.

While race is a power social construction used to oppress people of color from the past to the present, Africans and people of African descent have engaged and transformed ideas about identity, belonging, gender, ethnicity, "blackness," and "whiteness" all over the world.

Courses address intellectual achievements, cultural traditions, social institutions, and political movements of people of African descent.
The concentration encourages a global perspective of the past and the present.

Initially funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Arts Transcending Borders (ATB) is an initiative designed to enhance the role of the arts in every aspect of the Holy Cross experience by infusing the arts into students' academic lives and creating new opportunities throughout the curriculum and the community to cross cultural, geographic, and disciplinary boundaries. Foremost and at the heart of the initiative lies the visiting artist-in-residence program, which brings distinguished artists to campus to engage with students, faculty, staff, and the greater Worcester community through various workshops, master classes, public lectures, and performances. In tandem, ATB sponsors dynamic programs throughout the year, ranging from lectures by renowned scholars and artists, to unique performances, exhibitions, and installations.
